Alone Or Not?
I usually like to ride alone, but it is nice to sometimes ride with a friend or two. Don't like riding with the big groups, usually too many posers and wannabees.

I prefer to RIDE. If others want to join me, that's OK.
I was invited to go riding with some guys in the neighborhood a while back. We ended up in a bar about 10 miles up the road. That isn't what I consider a ride. I haven't been out with the same group since. I'd rather be riding.

Solo- lost in my thoughts and maybe lost as to location too.
the last group ride I tried with a pal during AZ Bike Week scared the crap out of me.
too many people who clearly had no idea what they were doing:
Mountain highway zoned for 65 MPH... some riders would crank up to 85 on teh straights, passing and pushing by cruising traffic...then the same riders would lock up on a 65 mph curve and slow to 45 mph.
Al and I pulled over and f'ed off in another direction.
nothing scares me more than another rider with a small dick and big bike.
I have a very few pals who I do ride with, we fall into a mutually comfy rhythm when touring.

The only other rider I trust is my father. He taught me how to ride on the street when I was 15. After 24 years we know each other's habits and style. Other than that I've done one group ride and it was frustrating. It's not natural to expect 20 riders (strangers) to be able to make it through a traffic light together. Then people end up pulling over and it turns into a mess.
It's all good in different situations. If I wanna play, I'd rather be solo ridin by myself. But the GF + I have great fun on the HOG rides which been averaging around 30+ bikes. You've got mostly experienced riders there + they know the rules of group riding. Local PGR also has great riders + love ridin with those guys. Group rides require much more concentration on your immediate surroundings + improves your overall riding skills. Nothin like the roar from a gang of bikes rumblin thru a small town.
Alone. Only have to please one person that way. Add one person and now you have to start worrying about the gravel road you might turn down or if they need fuel or need to use the restroom or want to eat and on and on and on.
+3 on that. I've been riding around alone for years, but lately my wife and I have hooked up with a couple with similar interests and riding styles. Living in Florida provides ample opportunity to be part of larger groups by necessity as there are 10's of thousands of bikes around.
Those groups can provide some fun of the sound of hundreds of bikes balanced by the exercise of clenching tight!
