Default PC-V Reliability

Hi All. I've had a Power Commander V from Fuel Moto since 2011. Have had the bike dyno'd and a custom map put in and the bike has run well. I've heard from a few sources, however, that PC-Vs sooner or later will just go, usually at some point between 3-5 years. I don't know how true any of this is, but if it is true then I want to change out to an ECM flash fuel management system rather than a bolt-on before the darn thing leaves me on the road somewhere. Yes I know I can just yank the thing if it does that but I'd rather avoid the problem altogether if I can. Just don't want to spend money I don't have to.

Those of you who have had PC-Vs in for a while, how long have you had them and have they been trouble free? Thanks!

The first one I had on my 96" lasted a year and a half before it started working up. The bike would cut out at full throttle and stall, I tried a bunch of stuff to see if I could figure out the issue and someone recommended unplugging the PCV. I did and the issue was gone, even ran good with the tw-555 cams I had in it. I ordered a new pcv from Fuel moto and ran that until I finished my 106/heads build and then I went to a power vision because I knew if the pcv went again the bike wouldn't run with out a tuner and that build.

If your bike will run with out it, I would use a PCV anyday. But if you have any real performance mods I would go with a flash tuner.

Running a se tuner with my 120r, until I find my power vision in what ever box it got packed into during our move!

Going on 5 years and not one problem. But for the reasons HD_Rolling specified and that fact I want to tinker some more with my tuning I am going to a Power Vision soon.

6 years and 45K on mine with the Auto Tune...got water in the connector to the ECM once but took it apart and did the dilectric grease trick.

I would like to switch to the PV but don't know what it'd take to transfer my map...and it runs so well I'm scared to mess with it too much...

We have been selling Power Commanders from the very beginning and even offer a double warranty on them. The fault rate that we have tracked is less than a half of 1%. Very solid product.

I had a PC III that went bad after close to 5 years. BUT the unit was mounted down low where it was exposed to water every time I rode in the rain. The new PC-V is a much smaller unit that sits under my seat. Had it for 2 years so far. Don't expect any problems...

Sounds like a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" so I will stick with what I have. The bike has been running great and I don't plan on making any more mods anytime soon, and seems like people are having good results with it. Guess I will have to find something else to spend my money on next week at Daytona

Thanks to all who responded, and thanks to Jamie at FM for chiming in.

I used one for a few years with no issues. I would recommend that you apply some dielectric grease to the connectors to prevent moisture.
