Mi wife got me a retractable lid tether for Christmas. When I heard on this forum that they break I took a closer look at it. Small wonder. Take a look at the size of the cable compared to the stock one.
Rather than return her gift I gave it an alternate use. Now it's a retractable key chain.
If you use one of these as a tether and it breaks, chances are your tour pak will suffer, especially if you have the rack on the lid.
I dont think its a problem unless you flip your top open and let just hit the end of cable. I always hold my lid when I open it and havent had a problem. I remember a post a while back and the guy basically states he flung it open and the cable broke. I think the tensile strength of the cable is fine to support the lid in an open position.

I was wondering about that small cable. Thanks for the heads up, I'll just live with the stock cable.
