Default Thundermax Auto Tune

I have had a few HD's in the past, but all have been carbureted. I still have my "mistress" as my wife calls it, an '04 Fatboy carbureted. So when I changed air cleaners, pipes, etc, all I needed to do was re-jet the carb and get me in the game. I never did the dyno deal as super performance is not my goal. I want a smooth, pleasant ride.

I have entered the EFI game with a great '07 Ultra Classic. I bought it from a widow who can tell me little about it other than her deceased husband did a few things to it. The A/C has been modified to a K& N filter, and Sreamin' Eagle slip ons have been added. I suppose these changes have somewhat modified the original mapping setup from HD.

The engine runs well but really vibrates hard at stop lights. The motor mounts are new as well as a brand new tune-up. The motor runs real hot and makes my legs burn in stop and go traffic. Plus I can't shift into 6th gear until 63 mph.

Question...will the TMax AT help me resolve the issues I mentioned? Advice is appreciated!

Like you, I stayed on nice bikes...until i bought my 09.

i had alot of carb tuning experience and a good understanding of "Classic" and "Modern" air/fuel spark thingys. Aside from my own stuff ( owning bikes, cars, trucks, covering the past 60 years) I took some classes. i am a hobbyist

at my age, my brain is about full of minutiae ( and that's why i instantly forget anything my wife tells me). and i have no interest in learning a whole new proprietary tuning world

it is more than likely that your bike was "tuned" when the pipes and K&N went on.
if it isn't pinging and pulls a load pretty good, then the tuning is probably good too.
If you can rev the motor past 5800 rpms without the limiter coming in, then you know for sure that it has been tuned ( I believe stock limit is 5500)

the vibrating could be anything...new mounts...too tight, too loose ? Exhaust touching the frame anywhere ?
release the front brake at stops and 75% of the vibration will not be felt, the front wheel will work all that off against the road for you.

65 MPH is about the minimum speed I shift to 6th.
that's on a level road, solo, no headwind.
the motor likes it better above 2800 rpms, so keep the revs up.

The T-Max ( which I do not have) is a comprehensive ECM, and would allow raising the rev limits and all kinds of fuel/air/spark adjustments.
If I were to add cams or headwork ( i won't) that's the direction I would look in.
What i did do for my 09 96" was plug Nightrider.com XIEDs inline with the o2 sensors. that richened my mixture by about 8% under most riding conditions ( part-throttle cruising) and took care of a persistant ping which occurred when completely stock going up 6% grades

Good advice, Mike. What you said makes really good sense, and to add a TMax with very little knowledge of the bike yet, is not a wise decision. A friend mentioned he added an XiED to his Ultra Classic, and has enjoyed tremendous benefits from the addition. Plus, that upgrade is no brainer simple and is roughly only 10% of the cost of the TMax.
