Thought I share something others may find helpful or interesting. I had a Mikuni Carb HSR42 installed back in 2012 during a bike rally in Panama City. This was to finish off my 95" Minton inspired build from earlier. I had noticed from time to time, when running at high speeds (85+) I seemed to be running out of throttle. I did not worry to much as I don't frequent these speeds and acceleration and all seemed normal.
I just got back from Daytona and after some hard and heavy riding decided to do all my service to get ready for the new riding season. When I was adjusting my throttle cables with the air box off, I noticed under full throttle that the carb slide was not opening 100%. It was approximately 30% from being completely opened. I made this adjustment per HD and Mikuni manuals. It now opens 100% under full throttle with no binding. WOW!! What a difference! Felt like a new bike. I have been riding for a year not realizing this was the issue. I thought I was just at the top end of my bike. I never thought about checking this because the "pros" installed.
