I have the new HD Boom antenna and have had the eBay antenna that streatglidedakota sells on my other bikes. I think the eBay one performs as well as the HD one. After installing my amp I had to move the Boom antenna below the radio due to interference from the amp causing poor reception. I say go with the eBay version, the only reason I bought the Boom antenna was because of the new connector on the 14's was not available on the others at the time.
Thanks for the info, and I think for 18.95 I will give the ebay one a try. Am going to order the one with the WB since it is the same price. Says they are closed until the 21st, so will wait and order then. Thanks for the info and will report back, now if I can just figure out how to get the antenna bases off the tour pack and hide any holes left.
My buddy hid the stock antenna behind the saddlebag and under the seat for me. He had done his already and it only took him 2 minutes to do mine. $2 plug for the hole in the fender and $.25 in zip ties to keep it tight to the frame rails.
Radio reception didn't change 1 iota and the back end looks clean.
I think there is a YouTube link to it in the sticky "mods" thread
+2 - did this last fall; cheap, easy, quick - reception is still good for me.
+3.....just did this mod with my son. 10 minutes later done. Receptions good here also!
+4. I did this last weekend and there is no difference in sound quality. $1.70 for the plug at the dealership and I was buttoned up in about 15 minutes. Super quick and easy.
Had a hidden antenna in the fairing on the last bike. It was crap. So this time it's the free hidden under the seat and frame mod. Works great and reception is great.
This is the one that I have as well. I also picked up a Y cable that plugs into the back of the radio to allow having both the whip and hidden antenna to be plugged in. My thinking there is that if the hidden antenna is a bust I won't have to go into the fairing to switch plugs.
And if all else fails...know that there is one guy on this earth that actually likes the look of the wip antenna .....ME
Should you get tired of trying to replace it with one that works for you.
I do worry about poking my eye out when I'm working around the bike but otherwise I dig the look.
