Seriously?

Ok.

There is no recommended sequence for removal and/or re-installation of the side cover bolts.

Torque specs for those bolts are 10-12ft/lbs. Torque specs for the clutch cable (into the side cover) is 3-5ft/lbs.

Get a replacement gasket for the side cover.

O-ring for the clutch cable should come with the new cable.

If you just loosen the headers, it shouldn't compromise the integrity of the mesh gaskets, but if it does...replace them. Let me know if you need torque specs for the exhaust flange nuts.

No clutch adjustment is necessary for what you're doing...if you need instructions on proper cable tensioning, just ask.

Sorry for giving 'half-assed' information in my previous post. I certainly didn't intend to set anyone up to fail.

This guy with 3 posts obviously has a better grasp on the task than I do...

When I added my apes I did adjust the clutch. IF you adjust the clutch than there is a sequence to put the cover back on.

Maybe that is what he was referring to?

P.S. The best $60 I spent was on the service manual.

I do agree that the manual is a necessity. Not gonna argue that.

And, the manual does state to follow clutch adjustment procedures when removing/replacing a clutch cable. But, as the clutch cable swap does not alter the tolerance between the ramp and clutch, all that is necessary is getting the cable length right...given the clutch was set properly going in to the task.

The original question was pretty specific, so I assume he can figure-out the 'little stuff'. I was just tossing the other stuff out because someone suggested the previous replies were 'half-assed'.

That's funny been doing this for years and I reread the manual again just to be sure and guess what. There is a torque sequence, it does call for clutch adjustment, and a lot of specifics. But hey ill just go back to doing my job working on Harleys and be quite.
