Default Sirius xm power supply

I'm interested in using a Sirius xm on my '10 ultra classic. Mounting and antenna placement doesn't seem like a problem, but the power supply that plugs into the cig lighter looks huge. I'm concerned about hitting the tank. I've searched and seen lots of people using these, but didn't read about power problems. I really do not want to spend the money on harley modual. Any one with experience before I spend any money.

i ran a wire from the fusebox thru the lower left of the tour pak on my 06 ultra.there is a factory grommet there.you can buy a cigarette lighter adapter and velcro it to the bottom of your tour pak.plug it in and rock.

I have an XM Onyx on my bike. I got the power from the cig lighter wiring inside the fairing. The stock cig lighter connectors are standard 1/4" spades. I cut the stock wires a few inches back from the lighter itself. Then I used butt connectors to run 2 extra wires to power the XM and reconnected the stock wires. I bought a power receptacle at an auto parts store and connected that to the 2 new wires. Basically just a permanent version of the wire taps that crimp onto the wires. Make sure to use the connectors that shrink with heat to keep moisture out.

After doing the wiring, I zip tied the xm plug into the power port so it doesn't vibrate out. Then I found a spot on the left side of the fairing where I could tuck it up out of the way and zipped tied it all in there.

If you have nothing off the headlight harness (gps), you could use that too. If you follow the headlight harness, there are 2 spade plugs on the end that aren't used. I used the cig lighter since I have my gps on the headlight.

Pretty easy project, just took some pre-planning.

Thanks for the idea about running off unused headlight wires, I forgot about that. I'm already using the cig lighter wired inside the fairing off the factory one. I was concerned about too much draw from that point, so going off the headlight could work a lot better. I really like having xm in my cage, even though I have lots of music, repetition of cd's gets old.

I installed a cig lighter in the dash of my SG...plug the XM radio into it. My XM radio and antenna rest in a HD dash bag. The fender washer is my antennas magnetic base....Its been in use since 2008 this way, always have great reception. I have a similar set up in my bass boat that I transfer the XM radio to.

I have one radio that I move between my bike, truck, boat, and cruiser. I've done the installation enough times I can probably do it in my sleep. The bike was the hardest due to the limited mount options and space. I mounted my radio where timberland has his plug on the right fairing. I used the heavy duty 3M plastic velcro to stick the cradle on with. So no holes drilled and it's solid. If your radio has the cradle like mine, watch the radio carefully that it doesn't vibrate out. I use a rubber band around the top and haven't had any issues.

XM does get old sometimes, but it sure beats commercials and talking instead of music.
