the 14 procedure is different than the 2007-2013. don't know anyone with a 14, so have never messed with it, but here is a screen capture from the book:
I agree it's the RUN switch and not the IGN to cycle through. A salesman at my dealer was going through the controls on a bike he just sold to a customer and I overheard him say use the RUN switch instead of the ignition.
According to the owners manual on page 112, you turn the ignition switch to on (ignition), then the run/off switch on your right grip is cycled 3 times. Sounds like by your post you are cycling the ignition switch 3 times.
Then you press left signal 2 times then the right 1 time and pin will show on odometer screen.
He is right don't confuse the Ignition switch with what they are calling the On/Off switch- We commonly refer to that as the "kill" switch. That is where everyone is getting confused, me included.
Once I figured that out It worked first time! And yes, instructions in the 2014 shop manual are WRONG.
I just changed my PIN and it is run switch off turn ignition on then run off run off run left turn signal 2 times right turn signal 1 and release turn signals should flash three times and the pin will appear in the odometer with the first digit flashing.
