i have a 02 wide glide and just turned 125,000 miles. I have been using syn3 all these years in all 3 holes. The trouble i'm having recently is that after HD service, I'm good for about 2-3 thousand miles and then I have to add a quart to the engine every 800-1000 miles? Anyone else having this issue?
I would think that is from many miles of heat which bell shape's the jugs. This is why my rebuild has coolers.
Had a dealer in Slidell LA do my 10K today on my 2015 Street Glide Special. They put SYN 3 in all 3 holes. I didn't realize they used SYN 3 in everything until about 300 miles up the highway. Reviewed the sales ticket when I got to my hotel and was surprised. I asked the service writer to use Bel Ray and he said they don't carry it. He suggested SYN 3. My reply was "Well, If that's all you got it will have to do.". Guess I should have played '20 Questions' with him to get all the answers. Just hoping no problems from mixing everything up. For my 5K, I had my dealer in Ohio use 20w50 engine, Formula+ in the primary and Bel Ray in the trans. SYN 3 is more expensive than 20w50 and Formula+. Guess they need the money in Slidell.
Yeah, I know this a 2 year old tread. Yeah, I know it's also a oil tread too!
So with this in mind, that is why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream.
When I did my 117" motor upgrade, I had to spilt my cases (built bottom end/Timken bearing) and every part inside the motor was replaced with brand spanking new parts! My wrench told me that he has not seen a cleaner 110" motor or any other size motor cleaner then mind period!!!
Mind you, I only had around 42K miles at the time when I did my motor upgrade on my rig, but I also changed my oil religiously every 2500 miles. Also since I have a "Lifetime maintance program" on my Road Glide, I have used nothing but HD Syn 3 in all 3 holes. Except on the initial 117" motor build.
"It is what it is", but here's a chart regarding oils that was tested by Amsoil regarding some of the best Dino oils & Syn oils on the market.
Surprisingly, HD Syn 3 ranked pretty damn good! Number #4 to be exact.
