21 " wheel question on 14 SG
If you are concerned about everything you have read on the internet, take a step back for a minute. Think about all the people in the world. There are quite a few human beings on this earth. Now think about how truths get twisted and how everyone has their own opinion.
There are certainly a lot of opinions out there. Sure, my job is to sell you wheels. Do I care what size wheel you buy? Not at all. Do I make more money if you buy an 18 or 21"? I do not. Does a 21" wheel look better? Absolutely. Am I buying wheel to make my bike more aesthetically pleasing? I am. How much of it is looks and how much of it is handling? That all depends on you.
I ride a Harley Davidson because I like the way the bike looks. I like the way it sounds. I like the way that passerby's stop and stare at it. I like how it makes me feel when I am saddled up and rolling down the road. I like everything about it. In fact you could go so far as to say I love everything listed above and I would not argue with you.
On my bike that has a 21x3.25 front and 16x5 rear with the front end at stock height with Progressive mono tubes and Harley "Premium Ride" (notice the quotes) I think teh bike rides great. Does it feel unstable? Nope. Does it ride smooth? Yes. Do I take it on long trips? Yes. Have I tried other size wheel on it? yes. Did it make a drastic difference? Not in my mind. If I am going to drop the cash to buy a wheel(s) for my bike I will get what I like the looks of. I have been running 21" front wheels on bikes since 2008. I have never felt the need to go back to a smaller wheel size. I have swapped back and forth just to feel the perceived difference and never felt the need to stick with a lesser sized wheel.
I know. You read so and so's post (who rides 1000 miles a year) and he put a 21" and did not like it. That is his opinion. This is my opinion. I ride my bike daily and know that I adapt to changes in the vehicle rather quickly as I am always on the bike. If you are considering a 21" front wheel, don't sell yourself short and get an 18 or 19". Do what it is you want to do. Don't worry about the "what if's" or you will drive yourself insane.
Get what you want and form your own opinion about it. That is by far the best way to go about this. Let's rewind the clock about 20 years and ask what people did before the internet was available as it is now. They talked to people who work for companies that specialize and wheels and formed their opinion on that. I am sure back then it was much easier to make a decision as free form opinions were not floating in cyber space.
So, get what it is you want and don't worry about what who said about what. Once you form an opinion post it here for everyone to read. I have rambled on long enough but if you have questions please feel free to call as we are always happy to talk about wheels.
