Just bought my 2008 RKC with 7688 miles on it. I'm looking to upgrade to true dual, and give it a real mean sound. The question I got is, what really goes into this? I know after changing the exhaust pipes to true dual I'm goin to need a rejet.. But I've read that there's much more it. Can someone shed some light on this for me? Thanks
1st things first... You AIN't rejetting...You will reprogramming the fuel injection...You will either go to the dealer and get a factory download or buy a fuel management system like Fuelpak or Power commander that the dealer or Independent can dyno and tune for you. This is unless you 08 actually has a carburator on it.
If you plan on doing more modifications in the future do yourself a favor and buy a fuel management system like Fuel Moto, you will have free maps for life.
There are a myriad of systems out there, from those like the V&H FuelPak, which is a piggyback to those like the TTS, which is a flash tuner.
If you're anything like me, and like tinkering and learning... and feeling the pride that comes from a job well done, go get a TTS, a PowerVision or a SESPT and study and learn. It is really not hard.
For an '08, being a 2 year bastard, sometimes you can find a GREAT deal on pipes. My best friend picked up a set of BUB7's, headers, mufflers, end caps, heat shields, the whole ball for like $280 shipped. We split on a 2 bike TTS, so he was into that for $300, and $150 for his intake. I did his Vtuning, him being my best Brother, I wouldn't take a nickel for my services, so he had a full aftermarket Stage 1 that runs like a raped ape for under $750.
Changing just the exhaust does not require a re tune. Once you do the intake then you do. When you do the exhaust ,intake and re tune it's called a stage 1.You can do the exhaust and then at later date get a programmer then at another time get the intake and re tune. Up to you. I did it all at once. Power Commader V is easy to do by yourself. You download from their site and install programmer.
So, if I wanted to only do exhaust for now.
I could put true duals on and everything and not have to even worry about programming or anything until I mess with the air filter..?
just changing your headers now will not need a tune. def will need it when you add the a/c & the bike can breathe better. .... however she would run better if you gave it a tune now as they run to lean from the factory.
