My local Harley dealer was putting on a demo day yesterday, so a few of my friends and myself decided to check out the festivities.....
The parking lot was packed, the majority was roped off for the Harley Davidson big rig and the '14 test ride bikes. They had every model available to ride (two street glides but no trike).
I assume the people that want to rest ride sign up and wait. All the bikes go out at the same time on a guided little ride.
It was time for the new riders to mount the hogs. They all started their engines and sat on the bikes trying to get a quick feel for the weight, controls ect. As they pulled out of the parking lot, a man riding the fully loaded Ultra somehow laid it over. Smashed it right on its side.... He was fine and the bike would be salvageable.
I felt so bad for him. Obviously mortified by what he did. He looked like an experienced rider by his clothing, helmet ect.
My question is.... Does harley cover the cost if someone wrecks a bike on a demo day test ride or are the riders responsible for paying??
If you're gonna drop a big bagger it's usually when taking off from a start and usually turning when doing it. Insurance will cover that. I also doubt you can judge a riders experience level by his clothing.
Not sure how it works for every dealer and their insurance but last year in Sturgis Black Hills Harley-Davidson had you sign an acknowledgement that they insured the bike but did not insure you for medical.
The riders sign a "waiver" form releasing liability for any injuries from HD.
They also have to prove they have a motorcycle qualified license and the proper riding gear.
For what your describing, HD has insurance for and the rider wouldn't be responsible.
I've thought about that as well. I would think some shyster lawyer would take a case where you got hurt, and sued HD. Make them settle instead of costing more for court costs.

You sign a waiver releasing all liability against HD for any injuries incurred during your ride.
This is much different than someone just posting up a sign saying "not liable".
By signing you are agreeing to the terms.
