My clutch lever is not returning all the way after I release it when shifting. Should it? Does it need adjusting? First time I noticed it was today. Also it doesn't seem to be engaging as soon as it has been. It seemed today it was jerky and lurching especially in first gear. Maybe I just had a bad shift day.. but my question is...I am taking it in for my 1000 mile service on Wednesday. I have to ride an hour and a half to get to my dealer. Will it be alright to ride it that far if it is out of adjustment or should I have it looked at and adjusted by a local mechanic? I hate to pay the labor to the local mech. because I know that the clutch adjustment comes as part of the 1000 mile service.
You will be fine to go to the dealer for the 1000 mile service. Talk with the service writer to let them know your concerns about the clutch, and where you would like it to grab. I like mine to begin to grab with about a 1/3 release of the clutch lever. When I first got mine it grabbed out further on the release, I got use to it until I went in and did the adjustment.
Had mine grabbing further out also, thought it was something caused by the reduced effort clutch until the 1000mile service, they had to replace parts in the clutch under warranty. I dont know why they dont get the adjustment correct new.
