Maybe it's just me, but I find the radar detectors about useless, they'll let you know where the airport is, but when driving many PD's seem to use a pulse or instant-on type radar or a laser type system
so by the time your machine goes off it's too late.
I like the valentine 1 as posted above. I've had it for a number of years now. I used to get tickets all the time, well, one every couple of years...its just hard to drive 55. don't get me wrong I've still gotten one with the V1 and it was an instant on in N.J., on the turnpike...go figure.. the trooper is fishing and hooks me. anyway, most of my encounters are in a bit heavier traffic on the D.C. Beltway and local thrufares where most of the LEOs are moving and have their radars running. it has never let me down in a situation like that and it seldom picks up false signals. if it does, I just mute it for a bit. expensive but I liked it better than the cobra or others I have had and I go back a way...I think my first was from radio shack around 75 lol.

Not only that, it's like you're sitting in the middle of pinball alley with the beeping, pinging and noise...just the things you want to "escape" while riding...right?
Anyway, answer to OP's question (from me) = No, never owned one
I have a valentine 1 in my car. But I wanted one specifically for the bike. This unit is waterproof too. I don't ride the parkway much on the bike, I prefer all the side roads and long way. But it is a nice piece of mind knowing you have some protection with a radar.
I have an Escort I bought for my truck. First time I used it, it stressed me out so much when it went off that I took it out of the truck and never put it back in. Anyone looking for a good gently used Escort?
