I am in middle Tennessee and the earliest Tennessee settlement is in East Tennessee and dates to 1779. I imagine they were too busy staying alive to bother making a plaque to mark their settlement date.

Hey guys - Sorry - having spent my my whole life in the Northeast, I hadn't considered this issue farther south or west. How about if we add anything US centennial or bicentennial related as also acceptable?
