I am moving to California in a few weeks and I was wondering about emmision testing, I took the stock exhaust last yeay and put V&H power duals and and monster rounds, with a big sucker air. Do they check that stuff when you register your bike.

No such thing. Get your bike inspected at DMV (they check the vin on the frame and engine) and that's it. Emissions is for cars.

And hopefully, it will stay like that for a long, long time!

If you are a CA resident, there are rules about buying a bike out of state and registering it here...

Since you are moving here from another state, you only have to pass the DMV vin inspection...

In California AAA does much of the paperwork for DMV if you are insured with them. Takes only a couple of minutes, and no testing.

DMV can often be crowded. They have a system where you can call or go on line, and make an appointment. Gets you right up to the counter. Saves waiting in line.

California is pretty motorcycle friendly. You need to have liability insurance as a minimum and keep you registration current. Needs to be done within 10 days of moving in.

Since DMV is usually backed up the police understand that it takes a while for you to get your paperwork. Just carry the DVM receipt and you are good to go.

Don't let the haters get you down. California has some of the best riding roads in the world.

California is a big state. Which part are you moving to? Some legendary Harley dealerships still around. Most are great, with just a few clunkers.

Might be a great state to ride in....but I hope you don't have any of those evil black rifles!

You don't have to be insured by AAA, you just have to be a member. And yes, AAA is far superior to dealing with the DMV. They can handle everything with registering an out of state bike...took me all of 15 min to get the VIN verification, and walk out of their office with a CA license plate for a bike I bought in Texas. All of this with no appointment.

Good advice here. Most people have AAA here and this is a major reason. They make dmv tasks relatively painless and are nice and try to help you instead of looking for any reason to screw you over like the ca dmv. You really should go see the dmv once tho so you can see where all your ca tax money goes. It truly is an art employing 50 government employees to do the job of maybe 5 in another state. Hell they still have paper fill - in - the - bubble tests. Bravo California!
