Been lurking here awhile. Picked up a 2008 FLHTCU in November. It is completely stock with just over 20k miles. Snow has FINALLY melted so just starting to ride it. My question: is there anything I should be aware of on this model? This is my first HD, not my first bike. Thanks in advance for any insight.
08 was the first year of throttle by wire, some riders had problems with high idol, had to do with shutting of the bike b4 it idled down, the ecm can get the throttle position wrong. there is an easy rest but i can't remember it.
I'm the second owner of my 08 UC. I asked the same questions of the original owner and they were all positive. I've had it for 10k+ and have had no issues.
also think there was a service bulletin about fuel pump housing,07-08 are kinda bastard years, old style frame can have some rear steer or wobble in high speed cornering, only seems to be an issue for aggressive riders.your tour pack has 2 positions make sure its mounted back more room for u and passenger. 07-08 are also geared higher than 09^ imo the gearing is to tall when 2 up.huge performance gains to be had by gearing lower but this may not be a problem for u. other than that ride it like ya stole it.
I bought the '08 anniversary Ultra brand new and owned it until I bought a '14 Limited a few months ago. When the bike first came out they had problems with the fuel pump and people were stranded out in the middle of no where with plenty of fuel in the tank and no way to get it to the engine. There was a recall on it to replace the pump. I was fortunate to have mine replaced before I had any problems. Other than that it was the best Harley I've owned until I got this new Limited.
Go to the HD website. Register yourself and add your bike with the VIN. It will tell you the recalls. You can also search Google for service bulletins.
The 07's had problems with knocking. Not the 08's. The TBW fixed most of it by not allowing throttle to go to 100% in the higher gears. That was was far more prevalent in the 07 bikes that used cables. Occasional High idle was the only "issue" with 08's.
I forgot about fuel pumps. I think it was discovered and fixed by mid to late 08 model year.
