I'm a metal fabricator/welder by trade and I'm used to being able to make my own parts. Occasionally I make parts for friends (sissy bars, license plate brackets and such) and I take great pride in my work. I haven't really found anything I wanted to make for my street glide other than exhaust.

My question is this - If I make a short 2 into 1, kinda like Sinister's "up yours" exhaust, what kind of baffle should I use to get the back pressure needed so I don't loose my bottom end? I thought about getting a stock head pipe and start from there. Similar to these. Any help is appreciated

I would look at all the 2 into 1 baffles and use one of those, Vance & Hines has 3 different baffles for their 2 into 1 pro pipe, quiet, standard, and competition, there are lots out there you could try, I like the Up Yours exhaust and the Covington Destroyer.

Call Bubs and ask them.... They make a **** ton of pipes (including rineharts and others) and sell baffles separate off the shelf.

I'm sure once you get past a receptionist with the correct question you will get the info you need.

Also take a look at the SuperTrapp website.
Their mufflers (slip-ons) work by means of a series of disks that stack inside the muffler cylinder. You adjust the HP, torque & loudness by the number of disks you install.
Simple and effective.

What about torque cones and torque chambers? I don't have any experience with these. Do they give the needed back pressure? Seems like the don't need as much space. I like loud pipes but don't want it to sound like crap either

Exhaust design is a combination of engineering and various black arts. There's a lot more to it than just bending and welding tubing. Companies spend a pile on R&D to get a pipe right.

Unless you've got a ton of time on your hands, and the equipment necessary to test the results of your experiment, I'd suggest against trying to fab your own.

I mean absolutely no disrespect to you or your abilities.

I know that R&D is a big part of an exhaust manufacturers program. However, a lot of guys out there run straight pipes and are happy with them. How much R&D went into those? I think I can do better than that so what's the harm in trying? I just want to build something different

Fair enough, but straight pipes don't do much other than make noise.

Good for you to dare to be different, but you need to do some reading, my friend. Drag pipes may be common because they are LOUD but they run for **** except on a drag strip. Same as many of those short short systems. LOUD but that's about all. Good luck! Joe

Khromewerks makes a good universal baffle. Big City Thunder has a quiet baffle too.
