Default Broken Front Brake Switch

Well. My ignorance got the best of me and I went and did what many have done and broke off the nub on my front brake switch. I am considering a replacement but am looking for some possible short term help with a nub replacement idea. I was able to clear a center hole through the plastic but I welcome some pics and ideas from folks that have "replaced the nub" so to speak to get me riding this weekend. And can anyone tell or show me just how tall or long that nub is so I have an idea of what I'll be trying to replicate?

I'd also welcome some help and direction on getting that switch out of there when I do get to replace it. I did a little disassembly but things did not so easily come apart and I do not want to compound my problems.

Thanks.

I had to replace mine a month ago. The switch was purchased via the local HD and I was slightly shocked by the price.

I did not feel like removing the faring and associated components. I disassembled the housing and cut the wiring and soldered in the new switch within the housing and carefully reassembled. A few hours later back on the road!

That's one of the most cheap-charley POS items I have noticed on any machine, not just a Harley! Many guys have broken that plastic crap!

Service manual warns yah gotta prop that lever with a couple popsicle sticks when removing the brake lever assy. W/O it I'd have done the same thing, it's an accident waitin to happen.

I did the same thing. It takes some patience, small fingers, and a magnifying glass but it can be done

I glued a 1/16" tab onto the inner part of the aluminum brake lever that rest against the micro switch tab. That depressed the tab enough which allowed the cruise control and brake lights to be off until the lever was squeezed about 1/4" and all worked fine. I also considered drilling a small hole into the lever where it contacts the switch and putting in a small screw with a rounded head. That would be more of a permanent fix unless the switch is actually bad.

Use a set screw. Do a search for "brake switch set screw" and you'll see a few.
