Yep, adjustable is the way to go. My adjustment switch is just below the left rear side just under the tank. It's a lever type, just push down on it and the seat-back moves by spring pressure.

I've used the riders Back Rest since 1992 and wouldn't leave home without it. Neither of my current rides ( FLTHCU ) have the adjustable option but I've never really felt the need to move the support.

Set it - and forget it! Easy - and economical - solution.

My backrest can go far enough rearward that it doesn't even touch my back or forward enough that it pushes me forward toward the tank and foot controls. Plus enough height adjustment to hit you where you need on your back. The adjustment cable and lever mounts on the left side, forward of the side cover and underneath the mid frame deflector if you have that installed. Simple to adjust on the fly. It makes a world of difference to me.

I have the cable adjustable one on my ultra. I would have struggled with spending the money if I had to buy it, but now that I have it, I love it! I find a comfy position, but some times, at the end of a busy day, just a little extra support is needed on the ride home. Easily accomplished with a tug of the lever.

60 here and never thought I'd need or use a backrest. That being said I bought the mustang for my '12 RKC last year and all I can say is "WOW". I love this thing and the couple times I've ridden without it since I couldn't wait to get it back on. As a previous poster stated it is easy to adjust on the fly but once I found the spot I like I've never touched the adjusting ****.

I'm going to suggest that the guys who think the fixed back rest are all you need, have never actually had an adjustable one.

I've had both. Adjustable is well worth the extra cost IMHO. (as many have already said)

I'm 50 and use the HD backrest only for longer runs, around town I can't be bothered with it. On the open road combined with the AirHawk it's like sitting on an easy chair, can't imagine riding long distances without them.

You don't have to...

If your seat will accept the HD backrest it will accept the Utopia...
