Default Drivers Backrest Opinions

Well now that I am pushing 50 I have decided that my comfort is more and more important....I have searched all three forums I am a member of and read endless threads about backrests.
Now I really just need to know is the extra cost of the cable adjustable backrest worth the money?
I see that they usually sell for $100+ more and before I throw that money on one I'd sure like to get opinions from others about how often they readjust while underway and how much movement do they really offer?
I know most say 1-3 inches of travel...but without actually seeing one and sitting on a bike with one is it a much better set up?
I know I could hit up a dealer and check, but it is kind of hard here in Germany to just ride up to your local Harley dealer and check one out.
Also where exactly does the adjustment panel/piece mount? I imagine on the left side under the edge of the seat?

Any opinions and help will be greatly appreciated!

I've had them both and I think the adjustable one is the way to go. A lot of the guys will tell you once you find your sweet spot you won't move it. But I find that when I go on long trips I move mind from time to time not that much but it is nice to get a little bit of a different feel.

I have the adjustable and move it around a lot. I like to change positions on long trips.

I have the adjustable and change it often on longer rides or when I change layers of clothing. Yes the mount is on the left side for mine. It also is easy to take off and store in a bag if you are away from your ride and afraid it might walk away.

Adjustability is worth it. I have the Mustang backrest and it adjusts easily on the fly, and does not cost as much as the Harley adjustable. I change up between my 2 seats and each one needs a different adjustment to be comfortable. I cant Imagine having to turn a screw to have to adjust each time, because it usually takes a few adjustments once I'm on the bike to get it right. I try to get it close when I am sitting on it stationary in the garage, but it ALWAYS needs tweaked once I get moving down the road.

I'm confused...Doesn't the Mustang adjust via a screw?
