Default Document holder?

I posted over in the Softail section that I was looking for a stealthy way to store the registration paper and proof of insurance on the bike that wasn't under the seat. I replaced the seat thumb nuts with chrome ones that you (or in this case, my wife) would need a 5/8" wrench to remove to get the seat off. The bike doesn't have any bags other than a windshield bag and I was looking for something that was hidden but with easy access. All of the replies stated that everybody keeps that stuff in their wallets.

I bought a Harley Document Holder (part #94206-03) and put it on the lid of my right saddle bag. I guess I'm looking for a general consensus on what everybody here in the touring section does with their documents? I have enough junk in my wallet and can't see not keeping them on the bike. My thoughts are that if a cop came across it somewhere, they could help me recover the bike. What do you guys think?

I bought a small ziplock bag, wrapped it in flame duct tape from my kids, and attached it under my saddlebag lid with velcro.

I use a clear plastic UPS or FedEx shipping envelope on the underside of my saddlebag lid. It's about 5" x 10", just peel and stick.

I carry mine in a ziplock bag in the liner of my helmet.

I recommend you store it where you can get to it quickly, without having to get off your bike or open saddle bags and stuff. (Random road blocks, etc.)
Ziploc in windshield pouch, or in front of saddlebag guards by the drink holder is good.
Think quick stop and go, minimize time and exposure. ("Hey, you don't mind if I have a look in there do you sir?)
If you are on a trip, vest or jacket inside pocket is good, too.
Always waterproof.

The containers that Crystal Light drink mix comes in are perfect! I use them in my tool bag as well to keep crap organized.

Mine are IN MY WALLET.

On a traffic stop, I can give all my stuff to the officer with 1 hand, no waiting.

AND they have no probable cause to search my saddlebags or bike.

why- it's none of their business*

Mike

* to explain; 4th amendment rights protect against unreasonable search and seizure.
"probable cause": an officer can say he saw/smelled/heard etc. virtually any item which lead to "reasonable suspicion".

motorcycle tools can be "burglary tools".
any medication can be suspect until proven legit...how about them tic tacs, what's in the aspirin bottle, why do you have sudafed
what's all this paperwork about, why do you have a folding knife- is that a weapon?
why do you have all these keys?

etc etc.

keep the bags closed and the discussion stops there

My wallet's good enough for me. I don't want to give any thieves my info if they start messing with my ride.

If I put the paperwork for my three bikes two cars and trailer in my wallet ther wouldn't be room for anything else - mine's in the front of my owners manual on the road king, ziploc bag taped under the seat of my softail, and in a ziploc bag in the tool bag on my shovelhead
