Not all that unusual in Atlanta, at least in my experience. Years ago a friend & I rode the area often. Doin' 80+ on I-285 it wasn't unusual for a cop (bike or car) to pull up beside us, eyeball the bikes, & pull away from us.

Towin' my bike back from my friends place one day I got about two miles down I-285 when an LEO lit me up. I'd just been passed by a semi, but I was 10/15 over the posted limit so I pulled over expectin' a ticket. I got out of the car & went to hand him my license when he waved me off & said "I just wanted to look at your bike". We spent 10/15 minutes on the side of the road talkin' bikes (he did look close enough to be sure I had good safety equipment on the trailer) then wished each other a good day & went on our way. I seldom have a problem with LEO's, 'course that may be because I don't give 'em any problems.......

I got a ticket for doing 31 in a 25 zone one early Sunday morning from a motor cop. I fought the ticket and won, but he was a dick. I like the way they tell you they're "helping you out because you were really doing about 40".

Just the other day I had a motorcycle cop in oncoming traffic, with his lights on (in the process of pulling over a cage), take the time to nod and wave at me. Most of the motorcycle cops around here are nice enough, when they are stopped and grabbing lunch or something but I've very rarely will they ever acknowledge another motorcycle and this guy did it while actively pulling over a driver. I thought it was pretty cool, if just a little bizarre.

Damn, 30 over what? 70+30=100.
If that's the case he sure did you a favor

I was on the 417 one day and I looked over to the other lanes on the divided highway and it was a motor officer, he gave me the fingers down wave, I wasn't expecting it, surprised me and didn't wave back. I felt bad for a little while after that.
Last week I passed a motor officer for our county on a new Electra Glide Police bike and he gave me the wave with a smile and I waved too, it was cool.

I had a similar very weird deal like that. Years ago in my car, driving down I5 in mid-Calif. Bored to tears, no one around, I was going just a little over...not much. Saw a cop coming up and of course adjusted my speed accordingly. He passed by just ahead of me, then slowed down to be even with me, motioned that I roll down my window, then over his pa said, follow me. He pulled up in front and sped up to about 80 and we cruised there for probably 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. Then he slowed down again, pulled along side and waved goodbye and then left the freeway.

I just looked at my wife and said that was pretty freaking cool!

Yes was probably close to that. The traffic had been stalled and my buddies were gone miles ahead. Figured I would make up a bit of time so when traffic opened up finally I started laying the boots to it to catch up. As I blew along I saw the cop in ditch between roads and slowed down and pulled in. He jumped in car pulled onto road and worked me out of the herd I was trying to blend in with like a border collie on a stray sheep. I thought I was going to jail. He was very nice about it. However the rule there is if I got caught speeding again with a certain time frame (can't remember the time frame) then I would be getting both tickets. Trust me, I was counting my blessings that I did't get the guy who hates bikers.
