Default how does a fairing effect your ride

i am currently contemplating trading in a road king custom for a fairing equipped model, but, am not sure how different the ride will be. is your view obstructed, does the bike feel awkward, does the wind effect the machine more with the fairing, etc. i just wanted to get some feedback from you guys who havesome experienceriding with fairings. thanks in advance.

Rent one and try it, nobody can give you a realistic answer to how it would feel to you.

The biggest thing I found when I went from a fatboy to an ultra was,
-the extra weight on the front end in slow speed turns takes a bit to get used to.
-the quietness is great
-the tunes fantastic
-room to carrry stuff, awesome
All in all, it took me about a week to get used to it, and would never go back.

But that's just me,

Yea, what he said...........I went from a 2000 FatBoy to a 2003 RKC......to a 2007 Ultra. It got better each time. In my opinion, the Ultra handles better than the others. I took the Ultra up to 110 mph the other day. It was great......very stable, not much difference from going 60 mph. As far as visibility, no problem, and I'm 5'-8". Once you get used to looking atthe world a certain way, it all seems natural. I loved the other bikes, but I'm stickin' with the Ultra...........

I am looking at getting an Ultra. Have a Heritage classic now. Went to ride one and instead of taking it out on the highway I went to a vacant parking lot. I rode for about 15 minutes and the very slow end of the envelope. I wanted to see how the handling was at slow speeds. With my wife on the back, I thought it handled great. No problems. That was the only thing that concerned me. People tell me that at interstate speeds you will get some buffeting when a semi passes you or you pass one. Just throttle up and go through it.

I traded a 2004 Road King Custom for a 2006 Street Glide. The SG is an awesome ride. But I just placed a deposit on an inbound 2007 RK Custom after selling my SG last fall. While I loved the SG, I like to have a windshield that I can remove when I'm sportin' around and not on a long ride.

Good luck with your decision.

The first ride of any distance that I took on my Ultra was under pretty windy conditions. Over thedayI experienced wind fromall directions
atabout 30-40 mph. I was going at speeds up to 80.
Never felt the wind move me uncomfortably.
At a full stop I did feel some movement but no big deal.
The handling will probably be similar to your RK.
I went from a Heritage to the Ultra. The Ultra will run circles around
the Heritage in every case except maybe parking lots and that's just
a matter of getting used to it.
IMHO of course.

Fairing-equipped baggers are great. Best handling bike I ever rode was a SG. My classic is good, too, but just a little higher center of gravity. I rented a RK and drove it all around Lake Tahoe, and I think the Glides handle just as well.
Also, less buffetting, quieter, more protection from the cold (especially for your hands).
I haven't noticed getting blown around more with a fairing than without. But with me on the Classic, we're 1,000 lbs.

for me, it helps block the wind, and in the Wyoming winters that is an advantage.
Plus a lot of the bugs during summer.
It's a big bike so does take a littlegetting used to especially at very slow speeds.
although it does handle excellently at slow speeds.
But being heavy it is a bitch to pickup if you lay it down.

less dodgeing bugs, rocks, birds, and cigars. I think the fairing stableizes front end too. every thing on my bike someone told me they would never,,,. wait til the skeeters come out. That fairing will effect your riding a lot I f you like to eat the miles. does add some weight in parking lot thow.
