Default Help Needed: Gutted Cat and O2 Sensor Placement

After installing the pipe, I pulled the O2 sensors from where I had them "stuffed" for safe keeping.

I remember reading that the white plug went to the front pipe, and the black plug went to the rear pipe.

Before re-installing the O2 sensors, I wanted to confirm correct placement, so I consulted the Factory Service Manual.

The physical picture in the manual (Fig. 43-1) shows the black plug in the left of the shot, or rear position, and is for the rear pipe. The white plug is in the right of the shot, or the front position, and is for the front pipe.

My plugs are the opposite of the picture, black is in the front, white is in the back.

So to make sure I was ok, I checked out the wiring diagram (Fig B-18 (5 of 5):2011 Touring). The front (white plug) shows to have a pink/o wire, and the rear (black plug) a pink/grn wire.

So based on wire color alone, I placed the "back" white plug in the front pipe - having the pink/o wire, and the "front" black plug in the rear pipe - having the pink/grn wire.

The bike is running running rougher and mileage is down since the decat - are my O2 sensors in the wrong pipes?

Isn't there a B and a W stamped into the head pipe next to the o2 bungs? I think they idiot proof it for the factory builders. If you compared wire color to the service manual schematic, you're probably right anyway.

When I did my pipe, I put both pipes on the floor side by side and switched em out one at a time. One is grey (front) and the other is black (rear). Here is a link that might help ya out brother. That will be 50 bucks, lmao..

Thanks for the helpful replys guys. I guess I got it right. I now need to figure out why the bike is running less than optimal - mileage down, decel popping, etc.

What other mods have you made to your bike? I have a big sucker air cleaner, xied's, decatted pipe and slip ons, bike runs like a dream. I don't see how it could be running rough if the only thing you have done is gutted the pipe.

Sounds like the sensors are in right (black is rear cylinder), but now, with the changes you've made, you need a tune.

definitely a tune. I run catless stock head pipe, slip ons, stage 2 breather, Reaper 574 cams and a power commander. What a difference it made when I gutted the cat. Winds up very fast. Had I done that first, I probably would not have done cams.

Gutted my cat and installed the xeids and it runs damn good. My only reason was to eliminate some heat and it worked.
