Bought a set of Vinnie Tracy intercom headsets of eBay (2 for $69). Can't figure out how to adjust VOX and headset volume to reduce wind noise.
Any suggestions or did I just buy junk? Thanks.
Make sure the mic on the boom is square with your mouth, not at an angle or facing the wrong way. I also just turn the VOX all the way down (off) and use PTT unless I have the CB. If the CB is on anything you say using the PTT button goes out over the air. That's the only time I use the VOX. You can also buy larger windsocks to go over the mic to reduce the wind noise.
I use them all the time. I have the vox turned way down. Just use the pip button. Push them in to talk. Same way for the passenger. Also the volume is set when setting up the intercom. It is not the volume for the radio. Should tell you how in the owners manual.
I can't talk for that brand, but we have found that cheap intercoms are indeed just that! Even some of the more expensive ones, over the years, haven't worked very well. We use bluetooth now, built into our flip-front helmets.
I have an 06 Ultra and use the Harley head sets. I swap them from my 3/4 helmets to full face depending on weather. 3/4 helmet, no wind noise issues, set with VOX open or with the delay I prefer open mic. Full face, one brand of helmet had no issues, I broke the shield on that helmet and couldn't replace it. Bought a new, different brand full face and it roars like it's in a hurricane at open mic, so I have to run it with the delay, which I HATE. Some helmets flow air differently.

Tanker 2 - do you have the headsets front Vinnie or another brand? What is your experience with them?
It's difficult to keep the wind from tripping the vox. If you can adjust the windshield height and/or maybe wear a full face helmet, those issues can be overcome. Ensure that the mic input side is pointed to your mouth. You would be surprised how many have the mic input side pointed forward and don't realize it.
Using the PTT (push to talk) button is a valiant fall-back in case you just can't get the vox to behave.
Stealing the thread for a minute. Just noticed your avatar from Gail's. I purchased a used 2013 FLHTK from them in November. Best dealership I have ever experienced.
