I have a road glide stock was a 140 I put a 150 Avon. I could have went with a 160 if I removed the belt guard, but I don't want any crap with warranty issues.

Most dealers in our area, NW FL, will not install a wider tire than the stock original. So, if you are under warranty you can't get it done.I prefer wider for the steel bridge grates, but will have to wait til warranty is up.

I spoke with a tech at the dealership and was told that I could put a Dunlop K591 150/80B16 which is 6.25" wide. But another person on this forum reminded me about the lower weight rating. The stock D402, which is 5.51" wide, has a max load of908 lbs.while the K591 has a max load of 761 lbs. If you wanted to tour with the bike 2 up and loaded, the max load might be something to take into consideration. I still haven't decided but I'll probably put the K591 on since I already have one on hand. It was intended for my Shovel but my Street Glide gets first dibs on anything in the garage.

I think its a little more technical than that. For one thing, the overall weight of the bike and the load (passengers and other crap) is split between both the front and rear wheels. The rear wheel obviously absorbs a little more of the weight. What you want to consider is how certain bumps will affect the tire. I live in Louisiana and our Governor doesn't really give a crap about the quality of theroads we drive on. And no, I did not vote for her, I'm just stuck with her for now. Anyway, I've hit some bumps on the Interstate atInterstate speeds(70+ mph) that have made it seem like I was gonna fly off the bike andthe bike was gonna fall apart.
That is when you think about weight ratings and the overall integrity of the tires you're putting on your bike.

I didn't know about the weight rating. Actually I had not given it any thought. Now I am a lil' worried. The wife and I (mostly me), are at the max load now. Guess I gotta loose weight. I went to thunder mountain harley in Colorado a couple weeks ago on spring break with the kids. The have a wide 300 tire on their baggers. Man that looks awsome. But looks cost, 40k+. Came back home and started looking for fat tire conversions. They run more than 3 grand, not including the labor and cost to repaint. But still, what a sweet look. Maybe at some point...once my lottery numbers come in. Just a matter of time now, lol.
