I just used a heavy duty hand type from hardware store. It was nothing special.

Just a staple gun works. Get it at Lowe's.

An air powered one will do a much better job.

I have used a Craftsman electric one with stainless staples to do some boat seats, I highly recommend the stainless staples. Three years later they had not oxidized.

Anyone know what length of staple would be best suited for this?

How thick is the pan?

I was using an electric stapler last week for a different project and had to have the piece firmly supported and pushing hard on the stapler to keep from having a little kickback. With the kickback, the staples wouldn't fully go in, and when I tapped them with the hammer to fully seat them, they bent over.

Depends how much material is folded under the staple. But I'd probably go 1/4" - 3/8".
