Hello all ! !
Back from cancer treatment and back on the road.
Made a "mistake" and bought another '92 FLHTC.
Right side bag lid came off at speed and I am having a DICKENS of a time finding a replacement lid.
Seems as though they stopped making them in whatever country they were being made.
Any leads?
Thanks,
Mike
Hi Mike and welcome to HDF from the UK. I suspect they were made in the good ole US of A, so take care with what you say! I'm sure the MoCo made all their glass-fibre stuff in house. As for finding a replacement you're are going to have to rely on doing some groundwork, probably to find a secondhand one. My first point of call is always Ebay, although you should also call in on the Evo forum, where you will find fellow owners who are up to speed on such stuff.
It its any consolation I hired an FLT in Florida back in '85 and also lost a lid. Bought my 1990 bike new and have so far kept on to them!
New units were made by Tomahawk Plastics here in the States, but the repops were made elsewhere, or so I have learned.
I sent money to bikerparts-superstore.com for a new lid (and other parts) and had to get the bank to refund my money.
Parts never showed up, they wouldn't answer the phone, never heard from them...
Seems like a trend with them I have heard.
I see LOTS of later lids, but no '85-'92 lids.
I was a member several years back, and I guess I got reset after so much time away.
Oh, and now in the North Texas area.
Thanks.
I see a new source there.
We have tried to deal with a couple of them, and only get a recording and no call backs, or back ordered status.
I'll let you all know what happens.
Thanks,
Mike
Yep, everyone back ordered. No hint on when there will be more stock. Big mystery with those needing parts left to twist in the wind.
Appears as though it is a V Twin part only, and they have a "hurry up wait, and be happy while you do" stance/attitude toward their customers.

I can tell you that it was common to lose the early bag lids. The latching in the front was Mickey Mouse at best. I'd suggest that when you do find one you drill a hole in the tongue and use a Hitch Pin clip as a fail safe.
