a better solution than the harley kit is through ***** shiny. hd doesn't 'clean' up the machining on the lowers as well as ws does. much more professional looking, imo.
and since he works on an exchange basis, and gives you 30 days to return your cores, there is no downtime there either. and much cheaper than hd too.
A little story about that. I got the HD chrome front end put on my street glide the day I picked it up. After install I went to inspect it and noticed the inside of the legs were all bumpy. I asked them what that was all about and they said it was how they came. I was so pissed being a person of details. So you pay $475 and you dont even get a finished product?
A few months later I saw someone post a ebay link for ***** shiny and realized I jumped the gun. So I appreciate you directing me to him again.
Thanks for all the replies everyone. I was kinda surprised to see so many. It made my decision much clearer. Power Coat!

Powder coat is tough as nails ...... But everytime i look at a set of black lowers they look like they have a grey cast to them upon close inspection. I believe it has something to do with the powder coat on aluminum my guess is....... I have never seen a set look as black as the the black on the frame of the bike ( frame is steel )..... Maybe it' s just me.
So I have been thinking about a black front end kit for my new bike. I have experience with the chrome but was wondering how the black paint holds up over time on the lowers, is there noticeable wear and tear from the road? The chrome just seems to be more resilient compared to a painted surface.

I recently powder coated my in wrinkle black. Far more durable than paint or even chrome. If you go black then definitely powder coat for durability.
