"The idea set up" is have pegs so that you can position either stretched out with boots on pegs or heel of boots on floorboards and toes of the boots on the highway pegs. (At least for me)

HD short adjustable with the Crested Bar & Shield pegs. In the perfect position for me and they tuck nicely. The pegs are not touching the lower fairing in the folded position.
I put floorboards on the rear of mine, so I used the pegs that were back there on the engine guard. I bought the HD 3 piece clamp to attach them to the guard. I have them so I can stretch out a little and rest my foot on them, or leave my heel on the floorboard and my toes on the pegs. Can be seen in my sig picture
