I just had the sert done on my new 2006 ultra and the dealer gave me the cd (unopened in the cd jacket), they obviously have it in there computer already. I also have what I assume is the dongle, it is a little black box with a computer connector on each end, no cables. The dealer made it a point to tell me to keep it with me on the motorcycle in case something happened to my computer.

They loaded a map with their shop computer and charged you $400 for something they had no intentions of giving you. Why do you think 95% of people on this board refer to them as stealerships? I suppose this same dealership charged you $750 for setup when all they do is add oil and put the windshield on the bike.
For the last time, THE DEALER DOESN'T ADD OIL - IT'S JUST CHECKED!! Sorry, but a set up consists of a helluva lot more than that - I see them done every day or so - I also agree that the dealer makes money doing it - I also agree that if the dealer didn't make money, he'd get out of the business and invest the million plus $$ it takes to start the business.

Call them first just in case the Saturday guy doesn't know where to "find" it - your encounter certainly sounds fishy.

Ted,

I'm picking up my '07 RKC this Saturday. If you don't mind, would you please explain the details of the setup on this bike.

Thanks!

And I said, let me keep you ole lady for a few nights......get back there and get it asap!

My question is How can one tell if they really loaded the map I needed?

Like everyone else stated you need the black box at a minimum. Ask for your cd and cables, and they should have them.

It never occurred to me to keep the box with me on the bike, I guess thet makes alot of sense since you can't unhook it like you can with a power commander.

Some of the following may not apply - I'm not a mechanic even though I sometimes "play" mechanic in my own garage - anyway. here's the list:
Uncrate
mount and verify handlebar torque
verify jiffy stand function
do cosmetic check
perform voltmeter test on battery
install maxi-fuse
install fuel pump fuse
install data link connector
install seat and seat strap
install saddle bags - adjust for proper clearance
install windshield
install and adjust mirrors
install and adjust turn sigs
adjust passing lamps
adjust throttle cables
inflate rear suspension - check for leaks
verify clutch adjustment
inspect oil lines and fittings
verify engine oil level
verify transmission lube
verify fuel sender operation
verify low fuel lamp operation
inspect fuel system for leaks
verify fuel connection at tank
check all gauges for proper operation
set clock
ck and adjust tire pressure
check brake fluid
check clutch interlock operation
road test - low speed(gears, brakes,handling while braking, alignment-no pull,vibration,lamp operation)
road test highway speed - shifting, braking, any pulling or vibration
create vehicle birth certificate with digital technician
setup security system
final washing
*********************************
A good tech can take 3-4 hours or more depending on the model. That's assuming there are no problems - we have found HD's QC is not what it once was and any cosmetic problems have to be addressed - dents, scratches, etc, all become a real pita. Notice there is no primary oil check - I am wondering if that may not change since the strike has left some HD employees soured. I have no idea how the set up charge is computed, but, I know transporation is in there somewhere.
