It was just the chain oiler... LOL

Wink Damn right!

And the wetheads have been VERY problematic. The only weakness of the Evo was the same weakness that Harley's have had for generations...lifters that often last only 24K miles...get you a good set of S&S or JIMS lifters in there, or equivalent, no problems from there on in. And, just like any other Harley, the stock cams were anemic, good set of cams that match your kind of riding, and you're set!

But, there are a TON of guys out there that would disagree simply because they haven't been riding long enough to know what an Evo is!!!
Oh so true!

Yep, I changed out the lifters and installed the upgraded inner cam bearing (Timkin) right after I bought it when it had 20,000 miles on it, but I left the stock cam in there. I'm an old fart now and the stock performance is OK for me. It's factory bone-stock and that's just what I wanted.
Simple little carb and the best electronic ignition system the MOCO ever had.

I bought a brand new 2003 RK, the first and ONLY new H-D I'll ever own, that was a total POS and warranty-repair queen from day one - and it was even a carbureted model, and no, I didn't modify it in any way.

No way would I have ever ventured more than 100 miles from home on that bike, let alone actually toured on it. I sold it at around 2000 miles and swore "never again"! If I ever buy a new bike again, and I doubt that I will since I love the '94 EVO I have now, it sure won't be a Harley.

Now I see problems cropping up every year. They need to road test more before selling a new design.
The thing is, as long as people keep buying those bikes as fast as the MOCO can crank 'em out, why should they spend a penny more on actually identifying and fixing the design defects that they know the bikes have? That's just good business.

. . . no, during the AMF era, Harleys leaked oil. Quality control was non-exsistant. The point of my post is that now Harleys are far better than in the recent past.

I've owned 13 new bikes since 1981 with 4 being Harley's. With the exception of the Big Dog Pro Sport (what a peice of crap) they were all trouble free.
