Default Compensator Replacement

I may have to replace the compensator on my 08 ultra. From people who have done this before, do I need to remove the inner primary cover? How long should it take to replace? Also, what is the current part number for the stock replacement? Thanks

Either remove the inner or grind the small ridge inside the housing . Tons of threads on this process including the homemade hub locking tool.

disconnect battery

drain fluid

remove outer primary cover

loosen chain adjuster

remove clutch ( hub nut is left hand thread) and comp. pull it out.

don't use air tools, be prepared to lock the primary drive with a block or rag

Compensator nut is regular thread. Have some red locktite to reinstall it. If it doesn't move when ya try to take it off, apply heat to the nut to melt down the Red Locktite that is on it already.

check out youtube . Search under 'replace harley stator'. 'VTwinOnline' is a good channel. You will see how its done. Counter clockwise ( to remove) for crank bolt, clockwise ( to remove) for clutch bolt.
