Default Security key stays lit...

Have a '11 RGC. After start-up and rolling the security key stays lit red on the gauge. Have tried to cycle it on/off and no luck. Bike is running great with no issues at all. I have a Thundermax tuner on it now and was looking for any info before I take it back to the dealer, because they will probably need to hook-up the stock ecm to read codes. Any tips out there?
Thanks

When the key stays lit, often its a lighting issue - are you sure your lights are all working properly (turn sigs, passing lights, etc)?

not sure what bike you have, but if its a Road Glide and you've had the faring off many times, you may have a pinched wire for the bullets.

But you should check all of your lighting wires for pinched wires. I had this issue, it was a pinched wire.

Did you add LEDs?

Thanks for the reply. I did have an issue with my led turn signals and the load-equalizer but that has all been solved and the light is still on. It is a RG and have had the nose off several times but everything else is working. Does a lit 'key' throw a code?

I dont think lighting throws codes (but I believe the 14's do because they are CANBUS). I think its worth it to pull the fairing (because of this)to check the bullet wires. I've been right more than once on this.

And I speculated that you had a road glide...

Also, did you check your fuses?

When you say "the light is still on", did you check for proper operation of running lights, turn sigs, etc - the whole thing?

found this on-line:
A couple of days ago I notice that everytime I turned the igniton swith while the start switch was on (who shuts it off anyways?) that the lights on the dash went crazy. The blinker signals flashed 6 times and the red key light would stay on. I knew my bike was trying to tell me something but what? I searched the internet to see what I could find and everything I tried didnt work. Like the meathead I am I failed to check to see if my blinkers were maybe out or other clearly visible components? Sure enought after a day I saw that my right rear turn signal was out. This is what the bike was telling me! Anyways i replaced both bulbs because they came in a pack of two so what the hell.. But now the dash still went crazy until I found this!! See my bike has a TSSM Security Module and apparently you must reset it(i didnt know this). From what I understand this issue can also happen if you leave your security light on too long, changed battery, or other components.. Anyways heres the process for the reset. If this has been posted before sorry for the repost.

step # 1. move handle bar kill switch to off position

step # 2. turn your ignition key: on-off, on-off then on

step # 3. hit the left turn signal twice.
your turn signals and indicator light will flash 1 - 3 flashes

step # 4. hit the right turn signal once.
turn signals and indicator light will flash once.

step # 5. hit the right turn signal once.
turn and indicator signals will flash twice.

step # 6. hit right turn signal once.
turn and indicator signals will flash three times.

step # 7. hit left turn signal once.
turn and indicator signals flash to indicate error code
(dont have the code list)

step # 8. to now clear codes, hit left turn signal and hold down for 6 seconds until confirmation.
turn and indicator signals flash twice.

step # 9. turn the ign switch to off

step # 10. hit the road and ride safe!

and this:
So, I'm leave a restaurant Friday night... get on the bike and it seems as if my security system won't disengage. The red key in the speedometer won't go away. I click, arm it, then double click, disarm it, and the key still stays on.

I need to get home, so I just start the bike, and luckily it goes. On the way home, I realize that the speedometer isn't lit up and my turn signals don't work... and my brake lights don't work either.

When I got home, I get out the owners manual. All it says is that if the key stays on, you have a trouble code. I disconnect the battery for a few minutes, and pull the main fuse. I check for blown fuses, and check for trouble codes, and nothing gets displayed. I can't even go into diag mode.... and nothing turns that red key off.

The next day, I go to the dealership. Thankfully, the service guy is super cool and says he can get me in the mix. They get to the bike, they say it was a blown fuse (I thought I checked them all?) but it keeps on burning out. The service guy also says that there are no trouble codes.

So anyhow... I guess the constant red key on the speedo means I need a new security system? Seems strange that it would knock out my speedo light and brakes. Oh, and when I arm the security system, the turns signals do flash when I rock the bike.

Anyone know? Got any idea?

I've got a 2005 FLHRI, over 12,000 miles.
Update... 4 days at dealership:

So I decided to called today (for the first time) and asked about the bike. I figure four days is enough time to figure out what's wrong.

Dealer:
"We haven't isolated the short. We will call you when we find it."

Me:
"Has anyone mentioned changing the security system out for a new one?"

Dealer:
"No."

Me:
"OK"

Dealer:
"OK. Thanks. Bye."
...I got the bike back.

Dealer could not find what the problem was. Tested "everything" they said, and no cause or solution. However! In the testing process, I guess moving some wiring around solved the problem. I don't have any isses at all... right now.

Strange huh?

I was able to pull up DIAG (I couldn't before) and I did have a U1097 code. So... the plot thickens.

I just wish that the dealer used their own fuses instead of going through ALL my spares. Well, I wish they knew what the problem was too...

Anyhow, the dealer service manager was super cool. He said there have been other late model 2005's with the same problem. So he might hear something from HD for a solution.

Idiots.

Blowing a fuse is a symptom, not a problem itself. After they blew the first replacement, that should have been it.

I highly doubt the security system is causing a fuse to blow.

I bet you have a pinched wire somewhere, especially since you wiggled some things and it "solved" the problem. I think you still have a problem.

This is an improvement? A bulb is burnt out and you have to jump through all these hoops to reset the system? Surely I'm missing something here.

My security light as well as my neutral light sometimes will come on and stay on. It is always when I am riding up in the mountains. Seriously. As soon as I come down to reasonable elevation they act normal.
