Am I ever dumb, I chopped down my 10" LRS Ultra to make it a 9", and that worked out really well. But noooo, I wanted to try the 8" for the cool factor, so I sold the 9" shield. Well, the 8" just let too much wind in for me. So, now I decide to buy the 9" again, but this time in the Flat Top version. Thanks to the good folks at LRS, they gave me a little extra cut...I did mention I was a forum member. Great company! Can anybody tell me if the Flat top is better than the Ultra, even for just the rider?
A buddy of mine rides with a flat top and swears by it. However, he does use a taller one for long road trips. Wish there was a way you could rent these and try them before spending the full price esp with there being so many choices from LRS, which is good.
I have several LRS shields, including the flat-top. ALL are good.
My passengers say they get less wind buffeting with the flat-top. I noticed the wind pattern was different, but that's about all.
I understand you wanting to test-ride a windshield before buying. I recently changed rear shocks to Ohlins. They literally seem to be 'settling in.' I mention that because when I purchased the Ultra and the flat-top, I looked over the windscreen about 1". Now, I'm below the top 1". Thus, I'll be sending LRS more money shortly.
Remember, it's a Harley. A $100 here, another $100 there, & pretty soon, you're talking about serious money . . .
For my Road King I have an LRS shield and when I use it like it quite well. I have had a few of their shields for the Memphis Shades fairing and the Flat Top is my favorite. Would have probably bought one for the Road Glide but found a local guy that sells Freedom Shields so pretty happy with that as it also has the flip.
I removed an 8 inch Cee Baily recurve and installed a 10 inch LRS Flat top.
It's about the same for me cause I really didn't have a problem with the Cee Baily (other than I didn't like the bronze tint). My passenger likes the Flat Top a lot better, but then it's 2 inches taller too.
Great company though, really quick shipping and they gave the forum discount even after I had paid for the shield and forgot to ask for it, I went back after the fact and they honoured it. That earned my loyalty right there. Great shield.
