Well I got home today and washed the bike. I decided to go ahead and retrieve the DTC's from the diagnostic mode. Here are the codes I got: ECM
>P0562- Battery voltage low
>U1097- Loss of speedometer serial data TSM/TSSM TSM/TSSM
>U1255- Serial data error/missing message EFI
- Serial data error/ missing message instruments
- Serial data error/ missing message TSM/TSSM
>U1097- Loss of speedometer serial data TSM/TSSM Speedometer
>U1255- Serial data error/missing message EFI
- Serial data error/ missing message instruments
- Serial data error/ missing message TSM/TSSM
>U1016- Loss of ECM serial data instruments
- Loss of ECM serial data, vehicle speed, vehicle inhibit motion or Power train security status TSM/TSSM
>U1064- Loss of TSSM serial data EFI Tachometer none
It appears there is either an issue with the data wires or the TSSM itself has failed. Any suggestions on these faults other than checking wires/connectors/pins?
Before you start throwing parts at it check the easy stuff.
Since there are so many codes related to the TSSM unplug it and check check out the condition of the contacts. Same for the speed sensor.

For sure. I'm not one to just throw parts and money at something without knowing that I'm going to fix the issue.
Went for a ride today. I noticed that when I hit certain bumps in the road, the speedometer started reading, then dropped out again. Guess I have a broken wire somewhere or loose terminals in a connector. Any ideas where to look? I've heard of some wires on these models that got pulled too tight from the factory.
Ditto on checking all the grounds. Mine was resetting the odometer and trip meter back to the last value every time I shut it off. It did keep the mileage down for a month or two until I got it sorted, too bad it was AFTER Ispent over $400 on a new one.
My 03 rkc is doing the same thing for the past 300 miles. At first I thought it was just the trip odometer but soon realized that the main odometer was resetting also. Everything else on the bike is working properly speedo, cruise, and blinkers all work Which ground wire was causing the problem?
I have an issue of my odometer "inked out" I can barely make out numbers. Is there any fix for the odometer or do I have to replace the speedo totally? I have a 96 FXDWG.
I'd post a thread but I'm new here. Thanks y'all!!
