They should have checked all three holes. I would let HD know about this. They need to know from a quality control standpoint.

Nice job by the dealer on the setup, huh?

Contacting HD's Customer Service is probably a good idea. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say.

The dealer in question is brand new. In fact, I bought the bike two weeks before they had their Grand Opening Day....

I suppose I should not have trusted them to do such a difficult thing like checking fluids. Live and Learn! It will never happen to me again.

Just got off the phone with HD customer service. They tell me that the Dealer does not check the primary fluid as part of their delivery prep. They are taking full responsibility for it happening at the factory.

So, what that means is they will obviously fix it but I am not entitled to a credit of any of the dealer prep charges.

BTW, they are very sorry that I will have gone a month or more with out my new ride.

Now would be the time to get either black or Chrome inner and outer Primary. I also would bet it made the Charging system get Real hot and shorten it's life

I'll never trust any dealer or anyone for that matter who works on my bike again! I had a front tire replaced at the dealer along with some warranty work. I never checked the bike, road the 6 miles back home and didn't ride that weekend because of rain. During the week it was nice so I went for an afternoon ride, about 100 miles. Kept hearing a clunking noise at times and got to wondering what they could have done since it never made the sound before. Before the noise became apparent, I had gotten on the interstate, running about 75 for a few miles. I went back home and looked the bike over when I noticed the front axle was barely hanging on; one of the nuts holding the clamp on was not even on the bike and the other was about 5 threads from coming off! The clunking noise I heard was the whole tire flopping in the lower fork saddle. No way this happened while riding, the dealer left it off and I was damn lucky I wasn't killed. Last time I'll be stupid and assume....ride safe!

Thanks Ted. Its reasuring to hear that I shouldn't expect any issues with the engine or transmission as a result. I already tried the keep this one and give me a new one approach but they wouldn't hear of it. I understand that these things can happen. I just have a hard time accepting that this was missed during the dealer prep. I was told by the service manager that checking the primary fluid was not even on their checklist.....That was $300 well spent dollars! I wonder if that is true for all dealerships or just this one? In the meantime, here I sit watching everyone else enjoy the ride on a beautiful Houston day. Oh well, atleast this forum is keeping me busy.
Checking primary fluid is NOT part of normal prep. It's supposed to be in there. When you get a new car ... they don't check the differential as part of prep either. I am a little surprized that they didn't find it on a test ride. Most new bikes are ridden 3 or 4 miles by a tech before delivery. It should have made noise then.

Your point is well taken. That makes since to me I suppose.....

My bike had 11 miles on it when I picked it up so it was driven for a fairly good test drive. However, I rode it myself noise free for 85 - 90 miles before the noise appeared. I'm obvioulsy no mechanic but I don't understand how that is possible with zero fluid......

Well the dealer just called to tell me the bike was repaired. I will be picking it up in a couple of hours.

I have been invited to go on a ride with a group of people tomorrow. This will be a backroad casual ride for about 200 miles or so. I'm sure there will be plenty of stops along the way but I also know at times we will be cruising at speed of 60 - 70 mph.

Since this bike has been in the shop for the better part of a month, it still only has 100 miles on it.

Do you guys think it is too early to take it on this type of
ride????

Ask for your $300.00 dollars back . I hope they change evrything in the primary. I would be a litle concerned about the crank seal and tranny seal ,they must have gotten really hot. Have them replaced as well. Someone there really messed up . On a side note have any of you noticed a lot of tranny problems with ALL the 07 models. It seems we get a post every day about noises/problems .mark
