Default Primary Drive Question

Three weeks ago I traded in my Dyna for a new 07 RK Classic. I road the RK for about 100 miles when I started hearing what sounded like metal to metal contact coming from the Primary Drive area. I took it back to the dealer who (due to a backlog of bikes) was not able to inspect it until today. Anyway, the call comes in today informing me that the Primary drive was shipped from the factory without any lubrication in it. This caused so much damage that the entire Primary Drive Assy has to be replaced. Questions:
1.) Is it really possible to drive the bike for 100 miles without any lubrication in the primary?
2.) Will replacing the primary return the bike to new condition?
3.) Is there any chance that additional damage could have been done to the tranny etc?
4.) How is it possible that the dealer did not catch this during prep (which I paid $300 for) ?
5.) Finally, what would you do if this happened to you?

I love the RK but right now I miss the trouble free Dyna.......

Thanks in advance for the comments!

As has been said before, HD's are always shipped with oil; apparently, your bike was either missed accidently at the factory, or, an employee at York purposely missed it - who knows. Yes, it would have been nice if the dealer had caught it, but, he plans to replace the inerds which will have no effect on the engine or transmission- no doubt, the list will include the compensator, compensating sprocket, self adjuster, clutch ***'y, chain, gaskets, and - oil! Tough pill to swallow, but, not unheard-of.

Leave that one with the dealer and insist on ridin' off on a new one with all the holes filled with lube.

Thanks Ted. Its reasuring to hear that I shouldn't expect any issues with the engine or transmission as a result. I already tried the keep this one and give me a new one approach but they wouldn't hear of it. I understand that these things can happen. I just have a hard time accepting that this was missed during the dealer prep. I was told by the service manager that checking the primary fluid was not even on their checklist.....That was $300 well spent dollars! I wonder if that is true for all dealerships or just this one? In the meantime, here I sit watching everyone else enjoy the ride on a beautiful Houston day. Oh well, atleast this forum is keeping me busy.

The least they could do would be give you a bike to ride until they fix the mess.

You would think so wouldn't you. My old Dyna is sitting on their showroom floor for sale. I would be happy if they would just loan that one back to me.

Not to be a negative person or offend you but I never anymore trust that someone I paid to do a job has actually done it and always check especially with lubricants in vehicles, I got burned one time and learned the hard way. I do feel for you not having your brand new toy to ride and having it effed up due to negligence or possibly malicious intent by a disgruntled factory worker. I hope you get back in the wind soon and never have a problem.

I'd ask for the $300 they charged you for setup back.
