Default Backrests

I have a 2013 SG I just put on 12" monkey bars and which have helped with the pain in my shoulders. I am interested in purchasing a new mustang solo seat with passenger pillion. I have had mustangs seat on my prior bikes and have been very happy with them. My question is does a backrest really help? I have a bad back and have had several operation to repair discs etc. Any recommendations or suggestions would be helpful
thanks

I just got my Mustang Solo Seat with Backrest and can't imagine getting it without. You can't add one to the one without it, so if you even think you may want one, get it.

It is very comfortable.

With a bad back like mine, a backrest is a MUST!
I'm surprised you haven't bought one already.
I have the mustang version, and it's the best on the market IMHO.
Buy the backrest, you will NOT regret it, trust me...

I just picked up an HD driver backrest to mate with my stock FLHR seat. I never had a backrest on any bike and I too have a very bad back. So with all the good things I have read about having one there was little to lose in trying one. Easy on and off so that's a plus because it is not a good pairing with my wife on board with the passenger backrest. Just too tight a space and very uncomfortable for her. And she's of small stature. But, for solo rides it's an easy add.

So my first ride with one was quite positive. It really helps keep you planted especially when accelerating from a stop. Also a nice support when flat footing the bike around backwards out of the garage, parking spot etc.

The only caveat so far is that it requires a significantly higher leg lift to clear it when mounting the bike but if you have a bad back very often that comes with limited mobility which creates a bit of a paradox. So right now I am not 100% sure it's for me.

It's so comfy you won't believe it. I have a mustang solo w/backrest and there's no way I'd go on a trip without it. That and 16" apes are the best comfort mods I've made by a long shot. The mustang backrest folds down and lays in the seat so no need to kick your leg over it.

I have the mustang solo seat with passenger pillion and the backrest. The rest folds up and I keep the it in the saddle bag. Around town, short runs it stays in the bag. I was out riding today, pulled over stuck it on and continued riding. The backrest makes a major difference. I have to also add, Mustang seats are great.

Got a bad back too, a back rest is a must. As an aside, I tried the corbin seat and it's greet but burned my butt after an hour to hour and half. Tried the HD adjustable backrest and hammock seat and it was terrible. Ended up buying a Russell day long with backrest and I can not believe how comfortable it is. Ugly as heck but well worth the comfort. I got an appointment for my other bike as I liked it so much

I will not own another bike without a backrest. Makes riding so much more comfortable.
