Saw the HD Red LED Rear turn signal/running light/brake light kit at the dealer for $150 but when I asked for a price to install ( during a $5k service) they quoted $120 for labor on the 2 signals which is 1 hr 15 at their shop rate ( plus $353 for the 5k).
I saw old threads on these LEDs, are they that difficult to install? My main concern is whether the turn signal wires and harness can be snaked through without the need to get behind the brake light under the fender because I have large hands.
Any one experienced? The bike is the 2013 RKC in my sig.
I also saw a non Led converter that had 2 red lenses and an adapter harness that simply plugs in under the seat for $69 on line. But it doesnt list compatability for DOT reasons. Does anyone know if it would be ok functionally? I use a Bal 1 tail light and obviously the non Led converter would be less bright but it looks like a plug and play at least on the models it lists for compatability.
If you are talking about Part No. 68128-10 they are a very easy plug and play install. Read and reread the wiring instructions into the plugs because it's confusing at first. But when you figure out what they are referring to it is a very simple job (and a HUGE improvement over stock in visibility from the rear).
Put them on my EGC. Easy enough to install. Pay attention to the wiring scheme. Made the mistake of putting a wire in the wrong slot. Had to go back to the dealer and get another wire connector. Once the wire is set in place you can't back it out without a special tool. Luckily I had the instruction sheet, didn't throw it away, and was able to get the part number for the wire connector.
The under-seat module is easy and converts the existing 1156 bulbs to high and low intensity for running vs blinker and brake.
The HD LED conversion accomplishes this too but it requires complicated wiring to tie in to each individual circuit. I installed the module then added the easy-to-install CD LEDs which are way brighter than the HD LEDs. They do require a load eq which is part of the Harley conversion but the HDs are not, in my opinion, plug and play.
I installed a badlands run/turn/stop module on my 08 road king, plug and play. If you really want leds it has a load eq and use the cd's like jberg said.
