If anyone is interested and lives in So-Cal, I have a guy that charges $300 flat rate for labor. I put 14" bars on my 11 FLHX, had to add mirrors and was out the door at $754.
I put on about 150 miles today and have to say the pain in my neck is almost non existent but my right hand still goes numb. I am getting a new mustang seat with back rest in tomorrow so I will try it with that setup. I may have to push the handlebars a little forward but will wait till new seat is on.

Your going to wonder how you did without a backrest for so long. I love my solo mustang seat & backrest.
If a shop is only dinging you for 4.5 hrs labor to do a complete install of apes I would say go for that and quick. I did my own bars and it took me probably 3 times that much time. Was the first time I put bars on a bagger but with wiring pulling, re-wiring connectors, near removal of the fairing to get it to tip all the way forward for mount access, removal of the tank to replace throttle cables and complete exhaust removal to gain access to the right trans cover to replace the clutch cable and brake line replacement and bleeding ran into a whole lots of time. Not a job I wish to do again anytime soon either.
Didn't know you were riding sans back rest. Gotta have that, it'll make the difference for you. I can't ride without one. Back rest, monkey bars, hi-way pegs, only way to ride for me.
