Hey I have an 09 rk with stage 1 and every now and then, only when the bike is cold and I try starting it , right when it starts the exhaust lets out a pretty loud bang/backfire pop.... After it starts it's all good from there....bike feels like it has a hard time starting when it's cold like the battery is dead and I just replaced it last year and keep it on a charger when not in use .... Sometimes it will backfire through the air filter too but thats a rare occasion.. Is this a compensator issue or exhaust related? Or is it just because the motor is shut off in a certain spot ? I have a full Vance and Hines exhaust set and bike has been dynoed after I staged 1 it.
No rattling in the primary, just a whirling noise that I have been told is normal and I have heard it on other Harley's.... Bikes got 22k on the odometer and it had the starter replaced way back due to a recall
Sounds like it might be better safe then sorry to just change it out and hope it helps , couldn't hurt ... I called Harley and they wanted 300 for the kit and 50 for some adhesive for a oil splash guard you have to glue to your primary... Seems steep for glue, I am hoping whatever is wrong can last til the end of the season so I can do it over the winter

I would check it first, the 09 didn't have as many issues as some of the later years. And seeing that yours didn't come stock with the SE type you might have to buy the SE Comp and stator in if you try to use the 2014 style. And my guess would be if they say you have to glue in the splash piece that it is the 2014 style because this is the first year they have that option.
Do you have the means to drain your primary and pull the cover yourself? If you did if would just be the cost of putting in new primary fluid to check, you can reuse the gasket. If you pull the cover and see nothing wrong with the comp you would be saving $300-400 instead of buying the comp and not needing it. If yours is still good you don't want the SE type, I'm about to replace my third and the last was the 2014 style.

Appreciate any input
Some pipes and bikes do it real regular. The early CVO's seem to do it worse than others. If yours is doing it make sure no one is standing close enough to hit you. It will get your attention if unexpected.
