can the front wheel bearings be repacked by removing the side shield and packing in new grease ?? if so will the side shield go back on and stay there ?? bearings are still good but will have the front wheel off soon and thought if it could be done i will do it ,.

No, the wheel bearings can't be repacked. They are sealed and should be good for a very long time. Besides, for the $20.00 it would cost to replace them, it wouldn't be worth the effort to try and repack them. IMHO
