I have a 09 ultra with air shocks,,my wife had back surgery about a year ago,she is riding good but when we hit one of those bumps you don't see the bike gives us a good jolt that hurts her back,,not good,,,will a good pair of shocks like progressive 944's help get rid of that jolt ?,,something has to be better than the stock air shocks,,,
I had back surgery this past winter and thought it may be time to switch out the HD shock after some research I came across these ( http://www.ironacesspeedshop.com/sus...series-shocks/ ) and have to say after just a couple of rides I am very happy HUGE improvement over stock and Great price. Come to find out the owners of Iron Aces website are also running these on there bikes, that says something to me when someone has access to multiple products.
The biggest selling point for me was once you make the order they contact you with some questions about your ride style, weight, etc, and then the shocks are dyno tuned together at the recommended setup.
Good Luck I feel her back pain I still on the mend but at least I riding again

Agree with the point to do it right the first time. Call Howard at Motorcycle Metal and talk to him about the JRi shocks. Even if you don't get them at least you will get some very good advice about shocks and what to expect with an upgrade.
put 944's on my ultra last year, wife is mad I waited 9 years to upgrade the shocks, my brother -in-law has 940's on his 03 and if you don't think there is a big different in the two just ask my wife, to say the least our roads in the Chicago area are not the best, when I would hit a pot hole or go across some RR tracks the wife would come off the seat now most pot holes she says she just feels a dip in the bike, some still lift her up but not as much. Just put the mono tubes in this winter. I have rode 2 other bikes with the Ohlins and they do give a better ride than the 944's and a lot better than the 940's but they are 2X the price of the 944's but I didn't fell the difference in ride was worth the difference in price. you just got to adjust the sag if you don't they ride like crap.
I've run stock , Progressive 940's which were way better than stock and Ohlins and JRi , Ohlins and JRi are as much of an improvement over Progressive as Progressive is over stock , I would call Howard and do it right the first time

Do a lot of research. Your going to find all sorts of options. If the price tag for the ohlins is to much you might want to consider the 13" Standard Height Harley Hand Adjustables.
Ohlin's and Jri's would be nice, but $700-800 is A LOT of coin for just the rears.
I got that in both front and rears and highly recommend Progressive mono-tubes for the front.
The 940's or 944's could be improved on but again for the price?
As said it is what you can afford, or think necessary.
