Default Oil consumption...

I've noticed that my bike has started using a little oil. Probably a half quart in 1,000 miles. I can live with that, just wondering what kind of oil consumption others may be having? (no need to post if you don't have any) and my bike has 40k on it now.

I keep mine about between 1/2-3/4 on the dip-stick and when it goes down which it seems to on occasion I just add a bit more, but yeah I think it uses a bit.

That measurement you mention, is that on the stand, or bike standing level? Mine was half way on the "safe" area, bike level. Now it's near the bottom of that area when level.

My 05 Dyna uses about the same. Mine, I,m thinking may be the valve seals. Harley had a issue with some of the 05, 88's. Mine has 45 K on it.

Thanks Cajun, my 06 has heads with - 05 castings so the possibility exists that I've got some of those suspect valve seal as well.....

I have an 07 w/56K and lose a half qt. in between oil changes (5000 miles). My guess is it is going in the breather. When I clean the air filter it has a little oil at the bottom edge. I have never added any oil between changes. I have the digital gauge and run it 1 step below full on the stand.

05s had what is called "valve-itis" and they upgraded the seals. A bulletin shows the old green and newer orange seals. Springer explained it here: http://www.harleychatgroup.com/forum...mption-problem

My brand new 05 Fatboy had this. You could definitely tell on the plugs. No question. Oily and fouled plugs every 4K miles.

This should be measured on the stand and hot.
