Right, should be on the jiffy and measured halfway between the marks...not filled to the full line.

I have 74k on my 07 Street Glide. It used about 1/2 quart every 5k, now I add 1/2 quart every 2-3k miles now or about a quart every 5k miles.

I just added oil to mine, back halfway on the "low to full" area, and it took 12 ounces. I've noticed a very slight oil contamination on the front spark plug after 5k of use, so my planned build this winter is right on time....
