Default Seat Security

As I was looking at all the bikes and new seat options at my local HD shop's Memorial Day gathering, I started thinking about the security of our seats. This would be especially true of the one-piece SG seats that require the removal of only one screw to remove. I know the chances are slim someone might want to steal a seat, but it seems fairly easy to do if the desire and opportunity were there.

Do any of you use something other that the regular phillips-head screw for your seat? I know allen and torx tools are readily available, but it seems like that might make it slightly more secure from an impromptu theft. Is there anything we could use?

Check out Brukus security products. They are a forum sponsor and I've only heard good thinks about them

I worry about someone snatching my seat, since there is only one screw holding on my $600 investment! I switched from the simple phillips screw to the Brukus product. They're known for the saddlebag security screws....

Never really thought about someone stealing a seat. I guess they could if they really wanted to. I just assumed that if someone really wanted it they would steal the whole bike. :/

I'd never thought about it either until I started pricing some seat options. I guess the resell value on some seats could make them almost as appealing to thieves as hard bags. When you think about it, you have several hundred dollars secured by only one screw, or worse, one of those knurled thumb screws. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but it does seem possible.

There are too many things to worry about getting stolen of the bike that's why we need to have good insurance coverage.

Thanks... I knew they had a hard bag kit, but didn't even think about the seat screw.

True, but I'm not sure how well I'd come out after my deductible. I may try some type of security screw just to be safe.

+1 on the Corbin. I've always put Corbin on my bike, but this is the first one that locks on. I keep the key in my tool kit so it's always with the bike.
