UGH...Indy will tear apart tomorrow and have their machine shop check the crank. I'm hoping it doesn't require the level of effort stated FWB35. Cant imagine shelving a 31K motor...and don't intend to hot rod it up more than it is....(got the softail when I want to be naughty) so hopefully there is a easier and less expensive fix that will keep it on the road.
Thanks again to all that took the time to respond.
More than likely crankshaft run-out but this came to mind as well.
When you did the cam change did you by any chance get rid of the chain drives and go to gear drive? Tolerances for gear drive vs chain drive is much smaller.
Yes, your indy should be able to check it by pulling the cam chest. No need to pull the crank to check? Can't put gears on 255s. The only fix for bad crank is a new one or true and weld of original. I would go S&S over harley on a new one. Darkhorse seems to be one of the best places for rebuild (true/weld). Stroker cranks are not much more...

Not necessarily a runout issue. I had a motor built and wiped out 2 pumps and that was after a welded crank. I thought for sure it was runout so i took the motor down and it was at .0012 rjnout. It turns out the indy that built it overtorqued the camplate and stripped the case threads where it was moving around to the point of cam snap ring broke and wiped out the pump. Id be down at the indys watching how it comes apart for my own piece of mind.
Crank run out is .005.....said everything else looks good and solid excluding the inner pump ring. Anyone with specs on run out? Hearing different things form different folks...and cannot find a specific number in the service manual.....
Hate to rebuild a motor with 31,000 on it.....tempted to throw stock cams back in it replace the oil pump again and hope for the best.....

Knowledgeable input truly appreciated!
I think I read somewhere it stated HD allowed .012......but builders I talked to before doing my 107 said they don't like anything over .006, some said nothing over .005
Many on here say it should be no more than .003, especially when going to gear cams
Bowhunter thanks for taking the time to respond....so it's not WAY out...at .005....basically may or may not be the problem....255's aren't geared.
Hate to button it back up until I have a pretty good idea whatever is causing the issue has been fixed. Hate to spend the $$$...but hate more getting stranded!
